It is particularly noted for its traditional Andalucian cuisine, with a specialty in producing delicious seafood. There are still the remnants of the original architecture too from the areas past as a fishing village. Aqualand is one of the area's largest water parks which is a great day out for the family who want to make the most of the water slides and other water-based attractions. Why not go dolphin watching from one of the boat trips, which usually run from the Benalmadena marina?

Those of an artistic persuasion may enjoy a visit to the Principe de Asturias, an auditorium for concerts, ballet, theater and other performances. There are also architectural monuments to enjoy - the church of San Miguel Arcangel, for example, or Torre De Pimentel, a 14th century defensive construction that still stands 40 feet high and gave the town its name. Cortijo del Tajo is also worth a visit, boasting Roman, pre Roman and Neolithic remains.

There are various religious ceremonies and festivals that are celebrated in the town throughout the year. Holy Week (before Easter) includes processions through the streets although the similar celebrations in Malaga are quite spectacular and are an easy journey away. There are also annual religious street processions to celebrate the Festivals of the Virgen del Carmen de la Carihuela and San Miguel Arcangel on 16th July and in the last week of September respectively.
